The University of Virginia (UVA) Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS), in partnership with the UVA Brain Institute, is seeking applicants for an open-rank, tenure-track/tenure-eligible faculty position within the Division of Health Intervention & Implementation Science. This position channels an existing UVA Grand Challenges investment in neuroscience toward a defined implementation science charge, and the candidate will develop and lead a multidisciplinary research program, along with contributing to team science collaboration, in support of the department's and the Brain Institute's mission.
UVA has committed a Grand Challenges research investment of more than $75M to the Brain Institute - the University's largest-ever investment in neuroscience - supporting bold, collaborative work spanning Alzheimer's disease, autism, epilepsy, and brain function and development across the lifespan. This position ties directly into that investment, applying an implementation science lens to help ensure the resulting discoveries reach patients, providers, and communities. The successful candidate will preferably focus their research on the implementation and dissemination of evidence-based practices in one or more areas of brain health, such as neurodegenerative disease, stroke and cerebrovascular recovery, psychiatric and mood disorders, mental health, substance use, or neurodevelopmental conditions, though deep neuroscience content expertise is not a prerequisite. With numerous active and planned statewide initiatives in rural health and collaborations with the UVA Karen S. Rheuban Center for Telehealth, the successful candidate will have ample opportunity to advance innovation in health care in Virginia.
This role is one of several coordinated positions PHS is recruiting as part of a broader departmental commitment to implementation science, anchored by the UVA IMPACT Hub (Implementation Methods, Partnerships, and Community Translation). The successful candidate will be an active member of the Hub, joining a cross-Grounds peer community of implementation scientists whose applied work spans cancer, education and human development, and clinical care. The successful applicant must be motivated, independent, and highly organized, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Finally, the successful applicant will have teaching and service responsibilities and is expected to participate in appropriate national and international organizations.
Faculty in this position will be active participants in the UVA Brain Institute, the University's hub for interdisciplinary neuroscience research connecting faculty, students, and staff across Grounds, and will also be affiliated with the UVA IMPACT Hub, which provides methodological consultation and a peer community of implementation scientists working across the University, and which connects to UVA's broader clinical and translational science infrastructure, including its reimagined Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) effort. PHS offers a vibrant academic home with access to support services for research. The department provides comprehensive and multi-disciplinary scientific and analytical services to the University of Virginia School of Medicine through its Divisions of Biostatistics & Health Data Science; Health Evaluation & Outcomes Science; and Health Intervention & Implementation Science. The Department offers two master's degrees, an MS in Clinical Research and an MPH, a Certificate in Public Health, and is planning a Certificate in Implementation Science. Successful candidates will contribute to the design and implementation of the graduate education curriculum; teach intermediate and advanced graduate-level methods courses; conduct research; and advance scholarship in their area of expertise.
