Summary:
The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect a community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime. This position supervises correctional employees and performs difficult security and inmate management at a state correctional facility.
Responsibilities:
Trains correctional staff regarding facility rules, procedures, and specific post duties. Assigns work and inspects posts to ensure officers are performing properly. Evaluates officer performance based on established work standards. Mediates officer disputes Identifies needs and provides staff training. Responds to employee grievances May function as a Lieutenant when needed. Develops work schedules. Keeps time and attendance records. Maintains key control. Responsible for inmate count Inspects tiers, housing units, and compound for breaches of security. Oversees inventory and orders supplies. Supervises visiting activities. Monitors control room and unit logbooks. Authorizes inmate movement. Organizes and directs management of inmates in a living unit. Resolves difficult or volatile inmate conflicts. Handles protective custody requests. Provides input to support staff concerning inmates. Recommends work procedure and policy changes. Testifies at hearings and in court. Serves on review boards. Acts as institution hearing officer. Participates as member of classification committee. Functions as institution armory officer and maintains and uses firearms and riot control devices. Participates on cell or inmate living area search teams. Coordinates transport of inmates to court, medical appointments, and other facilities Supervises control room operations. Attempts to resolve inmate, employee, and facility problems.
