Who we are and what we do:

The Tennessee Inmate Disciplinary Oversight Board is a full-time, autonomous state board that reviews the grant, denial, and removal of inmate sentence credits by wardens for good institutional behavior and determines whether previously awarded credits should be removed for major Class A disciplinary offenses or an inmate's refusal to participate in an assignment. We work closely with the legislature and the Department of Correction to ensure that the inmate sentence credit system is enforced fairly and effectively to benefit public safety and institutional compliance.

How you make a difference in this role:

The Deputy Director supports the IDOB¿s mission to promote fairness, accountability, public safety, and consistency in sentence-credit decisions by working closely with board leadership in all aspects of daily functioning. The role is multi-operational in its requirements and its effect by ensuring continuity of agency operations, effective oversight of correctional policies and procedures, and advancing the Board's strategic goals.

Job Overview:

The deputy director will serve as chief of staff or designee to the Executive Director and as a member of the executive leadership team. In the executive director's absence, the deputy director will direct agency operations, advise and consult with board members, and support all strategic needs of the agency. The deputy director will also oversee other staff members as necessary and ensure administrative functions are successfully achieved, including communications responses, appeal review and determination, and monthly disciplinary collection/distribution. The position may also provide executive oversight of legal operations and information technology initiatives during vacancies or organizational transitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Executive leadership and operational continuity;

  • Strategic support and consultation with board members/board leadership;

  • Oversight of agency administrative functions and agency staff, as necessary;

  • Appeal review and monthly disciplinary collection/distribution;

  • Executive oversight of legal operations when assigned; and

  • Executive oversight of IT initiative, including data analytics, technology modernization, systems implementation, and technology projects, when assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field; 5-10 years of leadership or managerial experience in corrections, public administration, compliance oversight, or a similar regulatory environment; active license to practice law in Tennessee; and experience overseeing IT projects, including technology stacks such as C#, JavaScript, and Python.
