Summary of Position:
We are seeking highly skilled and experienced IBM Systems Support Engineers to join our dynamic team. As an IBM Systems Support Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting IBM systems and software, with a primary focus on AIX and AS/400 platforms. Additionally, you will provide technical support and guidance to internal and external customers, collaborating with other engineers and developers on various projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, install, configure, update, patch, and optimize IBM systems and software, including AIX, AS/400, PowerVM, GPFS, SSH, etc.
- Perform system administration tasks such as backup and recovery, performance tuning, security hardening, and user management.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to IBM systems and software, including hardware failures, network problems, and system errors.
- Provide technical support and guidance to internal and external customers on IBM systems and software, answering queries, resolving incidents, and documenting solutions.
- Collaborate with other engineers and developers on various projects involving IBM systems and software, including testing, debugging, deploying, and integrating.
- Monitor and report on the status and performance of IBM systems and software using tools like NMON, SAR, TOPAS, etc.
- Research and evaluate new technologies and solutions related to IBM systems and software, attending trainings, reading manuals, participating in forums, etc.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in working with IBM systems and software.
- In-depth knowledge of AIX and AS/400 operating systems and their features.
- Proficiency in using AIX and AS/400 commands and utilities.
- Familiarity with AIX and AS/400 LPAR concepts and configurations.
- Skilled in using AIX and AS/400 system tools and software.
- Experience in working with IBM Power Architecture hardware.
- Experience in working with SAN software and storage administration.
- Experience in working with virtualization technologies like Power VM.
- Experience in working with cluster file systems like GPFS.
- Experience in working with security protocols like SSL.
- Experience in working with scripting languages like Python or YAML.
- Experience in working with ITIL methodology.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant certifications (e.g., IBM Certified Specialist, ITIL certification).
- Experience with automation and scripting languages such as Python or YAML.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
- Previous experience in a customer-facing technical support role.
