Description

Pace University has a full-time opening for a House Technician, who will plan, organize, and perform technical and clerical support for the Schimmel Theater at Pace University. The role will assist in safe operation and maintenance of Schimmel Theater sound, lighting, video, rigging and related equipment and systems used in support of staging musical and dramatic productions, dance and music concerts, school assemblies, lectures, meetings and related events.

Position Duties

  • Set up and operate sound, lighting and multimedia equipment for performances and events in Schimmel Theater.
  • Set up furniture and sets for performances and events in Schimmel Theater.
  • Operate and assist in the maintenance of the theatrical rigging systems and equipment.
  • Create and maintain all necessary paperwork and documentation in relation to the sound, lighting and multimedia equipment
  • Liaise with relevant departments and individuals to ensure support is anticipated and provided.
  • Provide technical and creative support for all users of the theater.
  • Assist during production weeks to ensure rehearsals and production meetings run smoothly.
  • Provide first-line maintenance support for all relevant technical equipment, machines, furniture, fixtures and fittings.
  • Ensure all equipment is stored safely and is accessible to others when absent.
  • Maintain an inventory of all equipment and materials held and used.
  • Liaise with IT staff about software requirements and system support.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Supervision Exercised

House Technician will operate under the supervision of the Pace University Technical Director and/or other designated Sands College Production Staff. The position will also lead work calls necessary, which includes both Local 1 IATSE and Sands students as stagehands. The House Technician maintains a high level of support for Sands and Pace, including providing an educationally sound and safe experience for all participants.

The ability to work with a diverse group of people is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience in a university theater setting and a willingness to support student theatre and dance productions, student designers and student crews.

Work Hours

The anticipated start date is September 16, 2026:

  • Minimum of 35 hours per week
  • The hourly pay rate is $39.54/per hour.
  • Scheduled hours will include a mix of days, nights and weekends.
  • Undergraduate degree in Theatre.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional production experience
  • ETCP rigging certification preferred.

Bargaining unit employees engaged by Pace University shall be subject to the terms of the active collective bargaining agreement between Pace University and Local One, IATSE.
