    NIKA is hiring for a Hygiene Specialist to support our client in Weilerbach, Germany. The role is contingent upon contract award.

    Job Description:

    The Hygiene Specialist will provide German-recognized healthcare hygiene expertise to the ROBMC Project Support Office and medical facility project. The position provides ongoing professional advice concerning hygiene and infection prevention throughout planning, design, construction, permitting, transition, and operation of the medical facility.

    The position supports compliance with the German Infection Protection Act (Infektionsschutzgesetz-IfSG) and the Landesverordnung über die Hygiene und Infektionsprävention in medizinischen Einrichtungen (State Ordinance on Hygiene and Infection Prevention in Medical Facilities-MedHygVO) of February 17, 2012.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Advise medical facility management and medical and nursing personnel on healthcare hygiene matters.
    • Assess existing and anticipated hygiene risks.
    • Propose measures for the detection, prevention, and control of nosocomial infections.
    • Evaluate building projects for hygienic requirements before building-permit applications are submitted.
    • Provide the PSO with ongoing, general Hygieniker services required under German law.
    • Advise the PSO on hygiene issues associated with planning and design of the medical facility.
    • Provide technical advice on hygiene-related design solutions.
    • Ensure applicable German hygiene requirements are considered alongside U.S. healthcare practices and requirements.
    • Support coordination with the PSO, DHA, U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR), legal personnel, German authorities, medical users, architects, and other project stakeholders.
    • Support hygiene-related permitting activities with the Kaiserslautern Gesundheitsamt.
    • Provide hygiene expertise during project design and transition activities.
    • MUST be US citizen and have ability to obtain security clearance
    • Must be a recognized and accredited German healthcare hygiene professional (Hygieniker).
    • Knowledge of the German Infection Protection Act (IfSG).
    • Knowledge of the Landesverordnung über die Hygiene und Infektionsprävention in medizinischen Einrichtungen (MedHygVO).
    • Knowledge of German healthcare hygiene and infection-prevention requirements.
    • Ability to advise healthcare facility management, medical personnel, and nursing personnel on hygiene matters.
    • Ability to assess infection-prevention risks and recommend corrective and preventive measures.
    • Ability to evaluate healthcare construction projects for hygiene requirements.
    • Knowledge of German hygiene permitting requirements and processes.
    • Ability to coordinate with German health authorities, including the Kaiserslautern Gesundheitsamt.
    • Ability to work effectively with U.S. military, DHA, USAREUR, legal, architectural, engineering, construction, and medical stakeholders.
    • Knowledge of healthcare facility design and the integration of German hygiene requirements with U.S. medical facility practices.
    • For BSL3 responsibilities, knowledge of applicable TRBA 100 requirements and U.S. and German laboratory permitting requirements.
    • Ability to prepare technical documentation, white papers, meeting memoranda, permitting documentation, and operational plans.
    • Ability to support Host Nation advocacy and regulatory coordination.
    • Ability to travel to LRMC, Kaiserslautern, Mainz, and other locations as required.
    • Ability to comply with applicable OCONUS travel and authorization requirements.
