Payroll Accounting Analyst I
Location: Indianapolis, IN 46256
Pay rate: $25.00 - $29.71/ hr
Work schedule: 1st Shift, Monday - Friday.
Duration: Long Term Contract through March 2028
The Payroll Accounting Analyst I is responsible for the end-to-end financial integrity and accounting lifecycle of payroll operations. Managing a workload normally shared among a larger team, this position balances high-volume, multi-frequency transaction cycles with rigorous system auditing. The position is structured across four core operational pillars: payroll cycle execution, financial reconciliation, regulatory asset compliance, and technical system stability.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Cycle Execution & Banking Settlements: Manage the financial workflow for semi-monthly, bi-weekly, and frequent off-cycle payroll runs (including standard and same-day runs). Run technical simulations, execute General Ledger (GL) postings, and oversee the settlement data interface with Citibank to ensure accurate, timely movement of corporate funds.
Financial Reconciliation & Auditing: Ensure high-level data integrity by executing "3-way match" reconciliations and Level 1 approvals across all standard and off-cycle payrolls. Perform bi-weekly reconciliations of all payroll postings to the general ledger, audit suspense accounts during all active cycles, and manage daily BAI2 bank reconciliations to correct incorrectly matched items.
Compliance & Asset Management: Oversee the comprehensive corporate escheatment process, including identifying outstanding checks, sending legal due diligence notifications to payees, coordinating check reissues, and updating status indicators in both Citibank and Workday. Execute manual checks, track stop payments, process reversals, log reversal postings to SAP, and coordinate with the mailroom.
Vendor & Project Support: Direct third-party vendor disbursements (such as Benevity and GenPAC). Actively participate in the accounting team's work regarding company acquisitions, handle ongoing corporate project work, and maintain the internal scheduling tracking for all future payroll postings and settlements.
System Stability & Testing: Act as a technical gatekeeper for payroll accounting architectures by conducting extensive Workday regression testing for system releases, pay components, new tax jurisdictions, and change requests.
Cross-Functional Partnering: Partner closely with regional Finance teams to investigate financial discrepancies, review daily Citibank reports, reconcile Citibank returns, and complete month-end reviews of general ledger postings.
