Location: Sarasota, FL

Compensation: $100,000–$125,000 Base Salary, Depending on Experience

Industry: Residential HVAC / New Construction

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Energy Load Calculation Specialist to join a rapidly growing residential new construction operation in Sarasota, Florida.

This is a highly specialized and critical position responsible for completing accurate energy load calculations for residential new construction projects throughout Florida. With approximately 1,300–1,500 homes projected annually, this individual will play a major role in keeping projects moving efficiently from design and estimating through permitting and construction.

The ideal candidate will already have hands-on experience completing residential energy load calculations in Florida and possess the Florida-specific certification required to prepare calculations for permitting.

This is not an entry-level or training position. We are looking for someone who understands the process, can step in with minimal ramp-up time, and can manage a significant volume of work accurately and efficiently.

What You'll Do

  • Complete residential energy load calculations for new construction homes in accordance with Florida requirements.

  • Prepare full energy calculations for new home models and plans.

  • Complete orientation "flips" for existing models based on lot and home orientation.

  • Review architectural plans, building specifications, insulation values, window information, orientation, and other factors impacting HVAC sizing.

  • Ensure calculations are accurate, complete, and ready for submission during the permitting process.

  • Work closely with HVAC estimating, design, construction, and operations teams to keep projects moving on schedule.

  • Maintain organized records and documentation for active builders, communities, home models, and projects.

  • Manage a high volume of calculations while maintaining accuracy and dependable turnaround times.

  • Identify discrepancies or missing information within plans before calculations are finalized.

  • Help bring a currently outsourced function in-house, significantly improving turnaround times for builders and internal teams.

Preferred Additional Experience

  • Duct design experience is highly preferred.

  • Candidates who understand how to take completed load calculations and translate them into residential duct layouts, sizing, and air distribution designs will bring significant additional value to the organization.

  • Experience with Manual J and Manual D principles is strongly preferred.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous professional experience completing residential HVAC energy load calculations.

  • Florida certification/qualification required to prepare energy load calculations for Florida permitting.

  • Strong understanding of residential HVAC system sizing and design.

  • Experience working with residential new construction projects.

  • Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and construction documents.

  • Experience with Florida-approved energy calculation software.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate work at volume.

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the load calculation process.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Dependable, hardworking, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced construction environment.

Software Experience Experience with Florida-approved energy/load calculation programs is highly desirable, including platforms such as:

  • EnergyGauge

  • Ekotrope

  • Wrightsoft / Right-Suite

  • Elite RHVAC

  • CoolCalc

  • Other Florida-approved residential energy calculation platforms

Why This Role Matters

This position sits directly in the critical path of the residential new construction process.

Energy load calculations must be completed before downstream HVAC design and estimating work can move forward.

Bringing this expertise in-house will allow the organization to dramatically improve responsiveness, better support builder partners, and keep projects moving efficiently.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a specialized function within one of the area's largest residential new construction HVAC operations.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary starting around $100,000+, depending on experience

  • Compensation flexibility for highly qualified candidates

  • Medical and dental benefits

  • 401(k) with company match

  • Paid time off

  • Stable salaried compensation rather than production-based or piece-rate pay

  • Long-term opportunity within a large and growing HVAC and plumbing organization

Company Culture

This is a growing organization that has maintained the feel of a successful, entrepreneurial, mom-and-pop-style company rather than a traditional corporate environment.

The culture is casual, straightforward, and hardworking. Team members are expected to operate with integrity, take ownership of their responsibilities, and do the right thing whether someone is watching or not.

The environment is relaxed, but expectations are high. The people who succeed here are dependable, technically capable, willing to roll up their sleeves, and motivated by getting the job done right.

The compensation for this position is expected to range between $100,000 - $125,000 per year. This range is a good-faith estimate, based on the qualifications necessary for the position, including experience, training, and other considerations permitted by law. Factors that may be used when making an offer may include a candidate’s skills, experience, the expected quality and quantity of work, and internal pay alignment, as needed.

We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other characteristic protected by law.

Employee(s) will be required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related duties requested by any person authorized to give instructions or assignments.
