Smith-Boughan Mechanical, Inc. is actively seeking a highly motivated and experienced HVAC/R Installer to join our service team in Lima, OH. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and the technical skills necessary to lead and execute high-quality HVAC/R installations in commercial and industrial environments.

You’re comfortable on military bases, can work overtime and on-call when needed, and bring a high level of accountability to every job site.
Key Responsibilities
Installation of HVAC/R Equipment (40%)
- Install commercial split systems, rooftop units (RTUs), and refrigeration systems up to 25 tons
- Braze and install refrigeration piping efficiently and to code
- Perform equipment startups and commissioning
- Handle refrigerant recovery and recharging per EPA guidelines
- Ensure all installations meet company quality standards and project requirements
Project Execution & Oversight (25%)
- Read and interpret blueprints, submittals, and specifications
- Manage and direct small installation teams on job sites
- Track materials, labor, and time to ensure project stays within budget
- Coordinate with project managers and clients to align on scope and timelines
- Ensure job site safety and compliance with all regulations
Service Support & Troubleshooting (15%)
- Perform basic HVAC troubleshooting for installed systems
- Identify and report potential issues during installation
- Support service team during startup and service calls when needed
- Make recommendations for repair or improvements during install phase
- Provide detailed documentation of findings and work performed
Customer & Team Communication (10%)
- Maintain a professional demeanor with clients, contractors, and team members
- Participate in regular team meetings and job site coordination
- Clearly communicate job progress and any site issues
- Represent TSI positively at military bases and other client facilities
- Work collaboratively with coworkers and supervisors
Administrative & Technical Support (10%)
- Maintain accurate installation records and paperwork
- Use digital tools or software for job tracking and documentation
- Support inventory control by reporting needed materials or tools
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work vehicle and job site
- Participate in training or cross-functional tasks when needed
What We're Looking For:
- 3+ Years Commercial HVAC/R Installation Experience: Proven track record installing commercial split systems, rooftop units, and refrigeration piping for large-scale environments.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in brazing, refrigerant recovery/recharging, system commissioning, and basic HVAC troubleshooting.
- Leadership on the Job Site: Ability to manage small install teams, read blueprints/submittals, and execute installations according to budget and scope.
- Team-Oriented Mindset: Positive attitude with a strong sense of accountability, collaboration, and initiative in the field.
- Detail-Oriented and Budget-Conscious: Organized, safety-minded, and focused on delivering high-quality installations within project timelines.
Professional Requirements:
- Universal EPA Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Able to pass background check for military base access
- Willing and available for overtime, on-call, and after-hours work
- Physically capable of lifting equipment and working in diverse job site conditions

- Basic HVAC troubleshooting knowledge
- Competence in blueprint/submittal reading and budget awareness
- Capable of supervising team members on job sites
Preferred Qualifications
- Computer-savvy and comfortable with HVAC software tools
- Welding and pipefitting experience is a plus
