Primary Job Function
The Installation Manager is responsible for the overall performance, profitability, quality, and development of the HVAC Installation Department. This position leads the installation team by example, ensuring jobs are completed safely, efficiently, on time, within budget, and according to Progressive Heating, Air and Plumbing standards.
The Installation Manager is responsible for developing Install Leads and Apprentices, maintaining accountability to established processes, monitoring job costing and labor performance, coordinating with Sales and Warehouse teams, and continually improving the customer and employee experience.
Core Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop HVAC Install Leads and Apprentices
- Conduct regular one-to-one meetings, field observations, and performance coaching
- Maintain clear expectations for each employee's position and tier
- Identify training needs and coordinate technical and professional development
- Support employees in progressing through the Installation career path
- Lead installation meetings and reinforce company processes, standards, and expectations
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and performance management
Installation Operations
- Oversee daily installation operations and crew assignments
- Ensure jobs are properly staffed, staged, and prepared before installation
- Monitor installation progress and address obstacles that could affect completion
- Ensure jobs are completed according to sold scope, manufacturer specifications, code requirements, and company standards
- Review callbacks, warranties, failed inspections, and installation deficiencies
- Ensure corrective action and coaching occur when workmanship standards are not met
Financial & Job Cost Management
- Monitor job costing, labor utilization, materials, and installation profitability
- Review completed jobs for financial and operational accuracy
- Identify trends affecting department gross margin and recommend corrective action
- Monitor Crew Pay performance and ensure employees understand the relationship between quality, efficiency, callbacks, and compensation
- Work with leadership to establish and achieve departmental revenue and profitability goals
Sales & Warehouse Coordination
- Work closely with Sales to ensure sold jobs can be installed as proposed
- Address scope, equipment, accessory, and installation concerns before they become jobsite problems
- Partner with Warehouse and Purchasing to improve job staging, inventory accuracy, and material availability
- Help reduce unnecessary trips, missing materials, returns, and job delays
Administrative & Operational Responsibilities
- Review and approve payroll information as assigned
- Ensure job documentation is complete and accurate
- Monitor schedules, staffing, PTO, and department coverage
- Participate in manager meetings and company planning
- Support after-hours or on-call operational needs when required
Performance Indicators
Success in this position will be evaluated based on:

Requirements
Required Qualifications
HVAC Knowledge & Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on residential HVAC installation experience
- Strong residential HVAC installation knowledge and field experience
- Understanding of HVAC equipment, duct systems, airflow, electrical, refrigerant piping, venting, and installation best practices
- Ability to identify installation quality concerns and provide technical direction
- Understanding of job costing, labor efficiency, gross margin, and departmental financial performance
Leadership
- 2+ years of management experience
- Proven ability to lead, coach, train, and hold employees accountable
- Ability to have direct and productive performance conversations
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to establish priorities and follow through consistently
- Commitment to developing employees and creating advancement opportunities
Professional Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Ability to work collaboratively with Sales, Service, Warehouse, Dispatch, and leadership
