HVAC Commissioning & Startup Field Technician

Step into a day where buildings come to life

It’s 7:30 a.m. in New Jersey. You roll onto a site with your gauges, meter, and laptop. First stop: bring a new rooftop unit online, verify airflow, fine-tune humidity control, and set energy management parameters. After lunch, you’re troubleshooting a heat pump loop in a mid-rise, coaching a junior tech through proper startup procedures, and documenting findings for the client. By day’s end, the system hums efficiently—and you’ve left another building better than you found it.

Our consulting group delivers full commissioning services for both new and existing facilities, while our technical services group performs start-ups on complex HVAC equipment from a wide range of manufacturers. The role

As our HVAC Service Technician, you’ll perform start-up and ongoing service of systems spanning air-conditioning, heating, ventilation, humidity control, and energy management. We’re hiring both experienced and entry-level HVAC technicians to support our expanding service business across the NJ area. You’ll diagnose issues, repair systems, communicate clearly with clients, and manage your schedule with independence and reliability.

What you’ll handle

• Commission, start up, and service commercial HVAC equipment (including water source heat pumps and rooftop packaged systems)
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems with accuracy and efficiency
• Optimize ventilation, humidity control, and energy management settings
• Mentor others in the field and support their development
• Document work, communicate findings, and coordinate with clients and the MIH team

What you bring

• 5+ years of field experience with commercial heating and air conditioning
• Knowledge of commercial air-conditioning, heating, water source heat pumps, and rooftop packaged HVAC systems
• Startup/commissioning experience
• History of mentoring others in the field
• Your own hand tools and a clean driving record
• EPA Universal certification
• OSHA 30 preferred
• Self-starter with strong communication and time-management skills

Compensation

Estimated Salary: $35/hourly - $55/hourly based on experience and skills plus benefits
