TITLE / CLASSIFICATION: Husbandry Technician I, Vivarium Operations
REPORTING LOCATION: Rockville, MD
REPORTS TO: Supervisor Vivarium Ops
SCHEDULE: Mon- Fri 5am or 6am start to 1:30 or 2:30 pm. Rotational weekends- 4 hours for Sat and 4 hours for Sunday, 1 weekend a month.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: Support in vivo oncology research studies in mice as a member of the Vivarium Operations Husbandry Team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform daily cage checks and weekly cage changes.
- Monitor animal health and report animal health concerns.
- Perform general sanitation on equipment, rooms, and facilities.
- Transport materials, supplies, and waste.
- Assist with surgical staple removal and study randomization.
- Record data within room logs and the laboratory information management system.
- Read, understand, and adhere to study protocols.
- Perform general preparation and organizational activities, including supply organization and stocking, and laboratory organization.
- Work weekends and holidays on rotating basis.
- PRODUCTIVITY EXPECTATIONS: 300 cage checks/hour; 80 cage changes/hour; 90 staple removals/hour. To be attained within 3 months of training completion.
