Job Responsibilities

Francis Marion University invites applications for a Director of Testing, Counseling, and Special Services Center. TCSS is the primary provider of mental health services for FMU students. It provides services to help students cope with college and life pressures that threaten persistence in college and to develop or enhance skills that optimize personal effectiveness. Faculty and staff may also seek short-term consultation. Additionally, the center arranges for the administration of exams that require accommodation for standardized tests.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop long-range plans and objectives for the TCSS

  • Consult with supervisor to develop and monitor budgets for the TCSS

  • Work with the University community to ensure timely response to counseling services

  • Provide screening, assessment, and counseling services to University students

  • Consult with students to identify services which will allow them to accommodate for conditions that interfere with the activities of daily living:

  • Review records to determine if the student is eligible for ADA accommodations.

  • Meet with students to identify reasonable accommodations

  • Communicate with faculty and staff to ensure the accommodations are implemented

  • Serve as liaison between Francis Marion University and SC Vocational Rehabilitation services

  • Provide training and supervision for students enrolled in FMU graduate programs:

  • Master of Science in Applied Psychology - Clinical/Counseling Program.

  • Doctor of Psychology Program

  • Coordinate fee-based administration of standardized tests for prospective and current students and external users

Minimum and Additional Requirements

FMU Requirements:

  • Doctoral Degree in Psychology
  • Licensure or ability to be licensed as a Licensed Psychologist or Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Knowledge in psychological theory, assessment, and practice techniques
  • Knowledge of psychological and educational outreach needs of college students

State Requirements: A masters degree and professional experience in a human service or social service program.

Preferred Qualifications

FMU Preferences:

  • Counseling experience in a higher education setting
  • Knowledge of alcohol and other drug counseling techniques, intervention strategies
  • Experience in working with culturally diverse population.
