    Position Summary

    Works under the general direction of the HR Coordinator in a lead capacity to perform responsible work involved in scheduling, analyzing, processing and maintaining employment matters, with wide latitude for the exercise of initiative and independent judgment.

    Pay Grade: 45

    Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Two (2) years'' experience in human resources; AND
    • Bachelor''s degree in human resources, business, or public administration, or a closely related field; OR
    • An equivalent combination of related education, and/or experience.
    • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Responsible for leading and training current and newly assigned human resources staff which includes scheduling, directing and reviewing work assignments.
    • Responsible for completing employment forms (new hires, promotions, demotions, separations, etc.)
    • Responsible for assisting with the preparation, coordination, and scheduling of mass hiring processes for Corrections Deputy, Deputy Sheriff, and Dispatcher.
    • Responsible for assisting in the preparation of employee recognition events to include graduation, promotions, etc.
    • Verifies and enters information related to application and interview status.
    • Prepares employment statistical reports and memorandums for HR Manager.
    • Updates and maintains personnel records.
    • Maintains an accurate daily file on all salary adjustments.
    • Performs other related duties as required or directed.

    KSAs

    • Knowledge of laws, ordinances, rules and regulations affecting the record-keeping operations of the human resources department.
    • Ability to effectively and concisely communicate orally and in writing.
    • Ability to plan, organize and maintain an even flow of work.
    • Ability to deal courteously with Sheriff's Office and other county employees and the public to resolve matters.
    • Willingness, mental and physical ability to perform the duties involved in this classification.
    • Ability to spell, punctuate and use grammar correctly.
    • Ability to perform accurate mathematical computations.

    Special Requirements

    • Must possess a Tennessee driver's license or secure one by date of employment/
    • Must have access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
    • Must be able to travel to other Shelby County Government site locations.
    • Must be able to work alternative hours during peak seasons.

    All employees hired after September 1, 1986, must be residents of Shelby County and shall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment.  The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service employees.  This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department.  The residency exemption for public safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions with Sheriff's Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department.
