Human Resources Manager

Location: Brooklyn, NY
Salary: $95,000–$105,000 + Benefits
Schedule: Full-Time | Direct Hire

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to join a mission-driven nonprofit organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in employee relations, HR compliance, performance management, and HR operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage employee relations, conflict resolution, and workplace investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Advise management on HR policies, disciplinary actions, and corrective measures.
  • Coordinate employee performance reviews, coaching, and development plans.
  • Oversee employee records, I-9 compliance, background checks, and HRIS systems.
  • Manage voluntary and involuntary employee separations.
  • Support employee engagement, retention, and workplace culture initiatives.
  • Partner with leadership on workforce planning and organizational development.
  • Prepare HR reports and analytics for leadership.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Nonprofit, social services, or community-based organization experience strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Proven experience handling employee relations, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions.
  • Strong understanding of HR policy development, implementation, and compliance.
  • Experience with performance appraisals, employee coaching, and professional development.
  • Ability to advise leadership and management on complex HR matters.
  • Experience maintaining personnel records and ensuring HRIS data accuracy.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Master's degree or PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
