Position Overview:

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for a variety of Human Resources functions at our Madison, WI plant. Responsibilities include hourly recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, benefits and payroll administration, leave of absence and worker’s compensation, HR compliance, HRIS reporting training and development, and other assigned duties by the HR Manager. This is a full-time, exempt position, working 100% on-site. This position reports to the HR Manager at our Arcadia, WI plant.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties:

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Position will initially be focused on recruiting hourly talent, primarily skilled welders, for our new Madison, Wisconsin, plant location and assisting with the recruitment of welders for our Arcadia plant. Position will be responsible for  posting job openings, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and coordinating new hire onboarding
  • Facilitate orientation programs and ensure all new hire paperwork is completed
  • Manage the employee lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding


Employee Relations

  • Function as a primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs
  • Assist in addressing employee concerns, resolving conflicts, and ensuring a positive work environment
  • Support managers with performance evaluations, corrective actions, and documentation


Benefits Administration

  • Coordinate and administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, 401K retirement plan, and other perks
  • Serve as the liaison between employees and benefits providers to resolve issues and provide support during open enrollment


Payroll Administration

  • Responsible for full-cycle payroll administration. Collection of time worked, vacation holidays, overtime, and other specific labor allocation reporting

 
Attendance/ Leave of Absence/ Worker’s Compensation

  • Administer our hourly attendance policy
  • Administer disability and FMLA programs, with a focus on effective management
  • Perform worker’s compensation intake processing; support applicable leave of absence/return to work administration at the facility level


HR Compliance

  • Ensure that the location is compliant with all federal, state, and local labor laws
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in accordance with internal policy and legal requirements


HRIS & Reporting

  • Manage and update employee data in the HRIS system (UKG)
  • Generate and analyze HR-related reports, including turnover, absenteeism, and diversity metrics


Training & Development

  • Identify training needs and coordinate employee development programs
  • Assist in implementing training initiatives that foster a culture of continuous improvement


Policy Development

  • Support the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures
  • Ensure employees understand and comply with company policies


Other Duties

  • This job description is not intended to be exhaustive. The employee may perform other duties assigned by the HR Manager to meet the ongoing needs of the company


Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field strongly desired. Would consider relevant prior experience in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum of 2+ years of hourly manufacturing associate recruiting experience, preferably recruiting skilled positions like welders
  • Minimum of 3+ years progressive, professional HR Generalist work experience, preferably in a manufacturing facility/environment
  • Knowledge of HR best practices and legal compliance
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Good working knowledge of time and attendance systems and human capital systems


Preferred Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience with UKG Pro/WFM
  • SHRM, HRCI or other HR Certification desired

 
Skills & Abilities:

  • Good working knowledge of HR principles, practices, administration, and competencies
  • Excellent computer skills and Intermediate Microsoft Office Excel skills are required
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Confidentiality is a must
  • Ability to work independently with limited daily direction
  • Ability to travel throughout the state of Wisconsin and do overnight travel. As the facility is staffing up travel to Arcadia may be up to 30-40% for a 6–8-week period. Then the travel requirement will decrease significantly once the facility starts up.
