About the Opportunity
A well-established nonprofit organization serving a diverse workforce across multiple locations is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead employee relations, labor relations, policy development, compliance, and HR operations. This role is a strategic partner to leadership and plays a critical role in fostering a positive workplace culture while ensuring compliance with employment laws and collective bargaining agreements.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with executive leadership on employee relations, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution.
Lead and support labor relations initiatives, including collective bargaining preparation, negotiations, contract administration, and union-management collaboration.
Develop, update, and implement HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook content.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and organizational policies.
Oversee workers' compensation, accommodations, leave administration, and return-to-work programs.
Supervise and mentor HR staff while supporting day-to-day HR operations.
Collaborate with leadership on performance management, employee engagement, retention, and workforce planning initiatives.
Assist with HR reporting, audits, and regulatory requirements.
Deliver training and guidance to managers on employee relations, labor relations, and HR best practices.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience.
Minimum 3 years of experience in:
Union negotiations and labor relations
Employee relations and workplace investigations
HR policy development and implementation
Strong knowledge of California employment law, labor relations, and collective bargaining agreements.
Experience managing disciplinary actions, grievances, conflict resolution, and compliance matters.
Previous experience supervising HR staff and supporting HR operations.
Strong written, verbal, analytical, and presentation skills.
Advanced proficiency with HRIS systems, Microsoft Excel, and reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a related field.
SHRM-SCP, SPHR, PHR, or comparable HR certification.
Experience in a nonprofit, healthcare, social services, government, or other unionized environment.
Strong facilitation, training, and change management experience.
