    Classification Title:

    HSCL Archives Student Assistant

    Classification Minimum Requirements:

    This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus. Must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.

    Job Description:

    The HSCL Archives in the Special and Area Studies Collections Department is seeking one student assistant to process materials, create inventories of collection materials, and write descriptions for a newly acquired collection records and photographs. This is an ongoing position for at least 1 academic years.

    Job Duties:

    • Create folder lists using Excel and ArchivesSpace
    • Hand-write folder labels 
    • Work with unique and invaluable archival materials by sorting, refoldering, and reboxing items 
    • Barcoding and labeling collections 
    • Creating descriptive data for the University Archives’ photo collections 
    • Occasionally conduct research by looking through documents, books, and websites
    • Keep sections in order by checking collection numbers, straightening the shelves, reporting problems  

    Hours:

    10-12 hours per week

    Expected Salary:

    $15.50/h

    Required Qualifications:
    • Ability to lift 40 pound boxes and stand on stools and high ladders
    • Ability to work courteously and effectively with others
    • Ability to work with attention to detail
    • Ability to follow both written and spoken instructions and procedures
    • Ability to manage time and commitments including scheduled work hours
    Preferred:
    • Previous experience in any library setting 
    • Good database and web searching skills
    • Ability to work independently once trained
