Job Description:
Our client is seeking a hands-on HR Director to serve as the primary HR leader within a fast-paced, field-driven environment. This role partners closely with executive leadership and plays a critical part in shaping people strategy, building scalable HR infrastructure, and supporting both blue-collar and white-collar workforces.
This is a highly visible role responsible for leading day-to-day HR operations while also driving long-term strategy across talent, compliance, employee relations, and organizational development. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments and thrive in a hands-on leadership role.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Growth Enablement
- Partner with executive leadership to support workforce strategy aligned with business growth, expansion, and acquisition activity
- Support organizational design across multiple operational sites including fabrication, field operations, and corporate teams
- Lead change management efforts tied to process improvements, integration activities, and business transformation
- Support HR due diligence and integration planning related to acquisitions and organizational changes
- Contribute to total rewards strategy, including oversight and alignment of 401(k) programs across entities
- Support execution of corporate agreements and related HR alignment initiatives
Workforce & Talent Management (Skilled Trades + Corporate)
- Lead recruiting efforts across skilled trades and corporate leadership roles
- Develop onboarding programs focused on safety, productivity, and retention
- Build training, apprenticeship, and career development programs for field and office employees
- Partner with operations leadership on performance management in a production-driven environment
Culture, Safety & Employee Relations
- Promote a strong safety-first culture emphasizing accountability, craftsmanship, and operational excellence
- Serve as the primary advisor for employee relations across both field and corporate populations
- Support engagement and retention strategies for a skilled trades workforce
- Foster collaboration and alignment across diverse teams and job functions
HR Operations & Compliance (Construction Environment)
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws
- Oversee HR operations including payroll coordination, HRIS, and benefits administration
- Manage policies and procedures supporting a multi-site, vertically integrated organization
- Identify and mitigate HR and labor-related risk across operations
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop a small HR team supporting both field and corporate functions
- Partner with leadership on workforce planning and organizational capability building
- Manage HR budget, vendors, and external partners including benefits, compliance, and 401(k) administration
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- HR certification required (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR)
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience
- Strong background in construction, manufacturing, industrial, or skilled trades environments
- Experience with payroll, benefits administration, employee relations, and HR compliance
- Experience with unions and collective bargaining agreements strongly preferred
- Hands-on experience with 401(k) administration and multi-state HR operations preferred
- UKG experience strongly preferred
- Strong recruiting experience using LinkedIn required
- Proficiency in MS Word and HR systems
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Must be a true HR subject matter expert (not an HR-adjacent or admin-to-HR transition profile)
