Our client is seeking an experienced Crew Scheduler to support a fast-paced manufacturing operation in Kansas City, KS. This role is responsible for maintaining appropriate staffing levels across plant operations, coordinating hourly employee schedules, and responding to changing production needs on a shift-by-shift basis.
This is a hands-on scheduling position where accuracy, organization, and communication matter. The Crew Scheduler will work closely with plant supervisors and hourly employees to manage daily staffing needs, attendance information, time-off events, training schedules, and workforce reporting while ensuring scheduling practices align with applicable policies, regulatory requirements, and collective bargaining agreements.
The position is initially a 6-month contract assignment with the possibility of extension. Candidates should be comfortable working on-site in a manufacturing environment and have flexibility to support either first or second shift. Training will take place on a 6:00 AM–2:00 PM or 2:00 PM–10:00 PM schedule.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain accurate crew schedules based on production requirements, employee availability, qualifications, and contractual requirements.
- Coordinate staffing for vacations, leaves of absence, bereavement, training, company functions, and other scheduled or unscheduled absences.
- Respond quickly to changing production requirements and adjust staffing plans accordingly.
- Partner with supervisors and operational teams to identify and address daily crew scheduling needs.
- Prepare and distribute daily crew sheets, staffing schedules, and related workforce documentation.
- Coordinate employee recall from layoff when required.
- Enter, update, and maintain employee attendance and scheduling information within applicable systems and databases.
- Prepare workforce reports related to hours worked, absenteeism, overtime, attendance trends, and other scheduling metrics.
- Maintain accurate scheduling, attendance, meeting, and employee documentation in accordance with established retention requirements.
- Handle employee and scheduling information with appropriate confidentiality.
- Assist with research and initial information gathering related to scheduling questions or grievances.
- Support training coordination, production execution activities, workforce projects, and hourly employee talent-management processes.
- Develop a working understanding of plant processes and operational dependencies to identify scheduling risks that could affect production.
- Follow established work processes, company policies, regulatory requirements, and applicable plant safety and food-safety procedures.
- Perform additional scheduling and operational support duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 2–3 years of professional scheduling experience, preferably supporting hourly employees or shift-based operations.
Preferences
- Previous crew scheduling, workforce scheduling, production scheduling, or labor scheduling experience in a manufacturing or plant environment.
- Experience scheduling hourly or union-represented employees.
- Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and their impact on staffing and scheduling decisions.
- Experience with SAP, Kronos, and/or Indeavor.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, particularly for tracking, reporting, and analyzing workforce information.
- Experience preparing attendance, absenteeism, overtime, or labor-utilization reports.
- Experience working in an environment where production requirements and staffing needs can change quickly.
- Familiarity with standardized work processes, regulatory compliance, and food-safety practices.
