    Job Summary

    The Houseperson / Public Area Attendant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, organization, and overall condition of the hotel’s public areas while providing prompt and courteous assistance with guest requests and room attendant requests.

    This is a highly visible, hands-on position that plays an important role in the overall guest experience. The Houseperson / Public Area Attendant maintains hotel public spaces, supports Room Attendants and Housekeeping operations, responds to guest requests and delivers requested items to guestrooms.

    Job Requirements

    • Public Area Cleaning & Maintenance
      • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of all assigned hotel public areas throughout the shift.
      • Clean and maintain hotel lobbies, corridors, elevator landings, stairwells, public restrooms, entrances, vestibules, and other common areas.
      • Vacuum carpets and rugs and sweep, mop, and clean hard-surface flooring.
      • Dust and wipe furniture, fixtures, ledges, doors, railings, baseboards, artwork, and other surfaces.
      • Clean glass doors, windows, mirrors, and other glass surfaces, removing fingerprints and smudges throughout the shift.
      • Maintain public restrooms, including cleaning and disinfecting fixtures, replenishing supplies, emptying trash, and monitoring conditions throughout the shift.
      • Empty trash and recycling receptacles and replace liners as needed.
      • Collect trash from floors to discard appropriately. 
      • Monitor high-traffic areas and address spills, debris, trash, or other cleanliness concerns promptly.
      • Maintain elevator interiors, including floors, doors, tracks, mirrors, and control panels.
      • Clean and maintain employee and back-of-house areas as assigned.
      • Complete scheduled deep-cleaning projects and other special cleaning assignments.
      • Maintain housekeeping closets, storage rooms, linen areas, and workspaces in a clean and organized condition.
      • Report damaged furniture, fixtures, flooring, lighting, equipment, or other maintenance concerns to Housekeeping leadership and/or Engineering.

    Guest Requests & Deliveries

    • Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests received through Housekeeping, the Front Desk, hotel communication systems, or Housekeeping leadership.
    • Deliver requested guest supplies and amenities to guestrooms, including:
      • Towels and washcloths
      • Sheets, blankets, pillows, and additional bedding
      • Toiletries and bathroom amenities
      • Toilet paper and tissues
      • Cribs and Pack 'n Plays, when applicable
      • Rollaway beds, when applicable
      • Additional hangers
      • Other approved housekeeping supplies or amenities
    • Acknowledge guests courteously when making deliveries and ensure requested items are delivered accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Follow established procedures for entering or approaching occupied guestrooms.
    • Update or communicate the completion of guest requests as required in Marriott's Communication application. 
    • Immediately communicate any guest concern, complaint, unusual situation, or request that cannot be resolved to the appropriate manager or department.
    • Maintain awareness of guest privacy and confidentiality at all times.
    • Never enter a guestroom without following established hotel procedures.

    Housekeeping & Room Attendant Support

    • Assist Room Attendants with linen, terry, amenities, and supplies as needed.
    • Stock and replenish housekeeping closets and storage areas.
    • Deliver clean linen and supplies to designated floors and housekeeping areas.
    • Remove soiled linen, trash, and other items from designated housekeeping areas.
    • Assist with stripping guestrooms when operationally necessary.
    • Assist with moving rollaway beds, cribs, and other approved equipment.
    • Help maintain proper par levels of linen and housekeeping supplies in assigned areas.
    • Assist the Housekeeping department with special projects, deep cleaning, and high-occupancy operational needs.
    • Work collaboratively with Room Attendants, Housekeeping Supervisors, Front Desk associates, Engineering, Security, and other departments.

    Qualifications

    • Previous housekeeping, hotel, custodial, janitorial, or guest service experience preferred but not required.
    • Previous experience in a full-service hotel environment is preferred.
    • Strong attention to cleanliness and detail.
    • Ability to provide friendly and professional guest service.
    • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of the Housekeeping team.
    • Ability to prioritize guest requests while maintaining assigned cleaning responsibilities.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, coworkers, supervisors, and other hotel departments.
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential.
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on hotel business needs, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

    Physical Requirements

    This is a physically active position. The associate must be able to:

    • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
    • Bend, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements.
    • Push and pull housekeeping carts, linen bins, and other equipment.
    • Lift, carry, move, and position housekeeping supplies and equipment.
    • Safely move rollaway beds, cribs, linen, and guest-request items as required.
    • Frequently lift and carry items weighing up to approximately 30 pounds and occasionally lift or move heavier items with appropriate assistance or equipment.
    • Work with cleaning chemicals and cleaning equipment in accordance with established safety procedures.
