    Basic Job Functions:

    Nucor Steel West Virginia is seeking a Hot Mill Roll Shop Lead. This role is responsible for driving Nucor's safety culture and demonstrating a commitment to personal and team safety by setting a positive example for others to follow. The Hot Mill Roll Shop Lead will support and lead the day-to-day operations of the Hot Mill Roll Shop by directing, planning, organizing, and executing the work activities of the roll shop team. This teammate will play a key role in the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Hot Mill by overseeing roll inventory, roll maintenance, grinding practices, roll change coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives that improve mill performance, product quality, and operational efficiency. The Hot Mill Roll Shop Lead will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical teammates to optimize roll performance, support troubleshooting efforts, and ensure readiness of rolls to meet production demands.

     

    Key responsibilities include:

     

    • Promoting and maintaining Nucor's safety culture.
    • Leading and coordinating roll shop operations and team activities.
    • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives related to roll performance and quality.
    • Conducting roll trials and implementing roll surface enhancements.
    • Assisting with roll change activities alongside the TCM team.
    • Utilizing data and analytics to drive decision-making and operational improvements.
    • Focusing on teammate growth, development, and performance through coaching and leadership.
    • Supporting operational excellence, productivity, and quality objectives.

     

    The successful candidate must be willing and able to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, scheduled overtime, and unscheduled overtime as needed.

     

    Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Prior leadership or team leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Experience in a mill roll shop, rolling mill, or related steel manufacturing operation.
    • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and use data-driven decision-making to improve safety, quality, productivity, and performance.
    • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Commitment to teammate development, continuous improvement, and fostering a positive team culture.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 1 year of prior leadership or team leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • 3 years of experience in a mill roll shop, rolling mill, or related steel manufacturing operation.
