Position Summary

Public House seeks a Host to ensure customers have a positive experience when they enter the restaurant. This role will greet customers, provide information, help customers find their table, and work closely with Front of House and Back of House staff, as well as managers. This role requires availability to work in shifts as needed as well as weekends and holidays. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills with the ability to monitor the entire dining and bar area, and excellent communication skills (via phone and in-person). This part time, seasonal role starts at $15.16/hour plus tip pool. The seasons run December - March and May - October

They understand that hospitality begins before guests are seated and continues until they leave the restaurant, making the Host one of the most important ambassadors of the Public House experience.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Welcome every guest promptly with genuine hospitality and a positive attitude.
  • Manage reservations, wait lists, and walk-in guests while providing accurate wait time estimates.
  • Coordinate seating to maximize dining room efficiency while maintaining balanced server sections.
  • Monitor table availability and communicate continuously with service staff to optimize guest flow.
  • Escort guests to their tables, present menus, and introduce their server when appropriate.
  • Maintain awareness of reservations, large parties, special events, VIP guests, and accessibility needs.
  • Answer incoming phone calls professionally and assist guests with reservations, restaurant information, hours, menu questions, and special requests.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the food menu, beverage program, daily specials, promotions, and restaurant policies.
  • Anticipate guest needs and proactively resolve concerns or involve management when appropriate.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming entrance, host stand, waiting area, and dining room.
  • Assist with takeout orders, guest inquiries, and administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Support servers, bartenders, bussers, food runners, and managers during busy service periods to ensure exceptional guest experiences.
  • Uphold Public House standards for hospitality, professionalism, cleanliness, appearance, and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to remain calm, organized, and professional during busy service periods.

  • Strong multitasking and time management abilities.

  • Ability to make sound decisions while balancing guest satisfaction and restaurant operations.

  • Comfortable using reservation systems, point-of-sale systems, and telephone communications.

  • Professional appearance and commitment to delivering outstanding hospitality.

Preferences

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous restaurant or hospitality experience.
  • Experience with reservation management or restaurant POS systems.
  • Knowledge of food, beer, wine, and cocktails is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional guest service.
  • Friendly, energetic, and approachable personality.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.Previous work experience as a Host/Hostess.

Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to move throughout the restaurant quickly and safely.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
