A Hospital Laboratory Director opportunity is available in Nashville, TN, supporting a hospital-based rapid-response laboratory within a network that serves more than 250 acute and rehabilitation hospitals, physician practices, surgery centers, and commercial accounts across multiple divisions.

The role. The Laboratory Director leads all operational, regulatory, and financial functions of the hospital laboratory, setting and executing department strategies that span service quality, compliance, and personnel management. A central focus is building and sustaining a qualified team — overseeing hiring, orientation, competency assessment, and ongoing performance development through regular coaching and feedback. The director is responsible for monitoring resource utilization, identifying budget variances, and preparing Monthly Operating Review reports to keep the laboratory aligned with fiscal and service goals. Ensuring compliance with CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, FDA, and CMS standards is a core accountability, including the development, implementation, and annual review of all laboratory policies and procedures. The director also manages key vendor and supply-chain relationships and maintains an active communication plan that keeps staff well informed and engaged in continuous departmental improvement.

What we're looking for.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • National certification as a Medical Technologist required
  • Active Tennessee state laboratory license required
  • 3 or more years of progressive laboratory management experience with complex laboratory operations required
  • Leadership experience required
  • Hospital clinical laboratory experience preferred
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination required in accordance with applicable local, state, and/or federal law or regulations (medical or religious exemptions considered)
