Position Title: Private Duty RN (Registered Nurse)

Reports To: Clinical Supervisor / Director of Nursing

Location: Patient’s Home (in Bangor)

Employment Type: Full-time / Part-time

 

 

 

 

Position Summary

 

 

The Private Duty RN provides skilled nursing care to patients in their homes on a one-to-one basis. The nurse ensures patient safety, promotes independence, and supports patients in achieving their highest possible level of health and quality of life. Care is delivered in accordance with the physician’s plan of care, state/federal regulations, and agency policies.

 

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

 

  • Provide direct patient care in the home, including assessments, treatments, and skilled nursing interventions.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized nursing care plans based on patient needs and physician orders.
  • Monitor patient’s vital signs, symptoms, and overall condition; promptly report changes to the physician and agency supervisor.
  • Administer medications, injections, wound care, and other prescribed treatments safely and accurately.
  • Provide patient and family education on disease processes, medications, equipment use, and home safety.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members (physicians, therapists, social workers, caregivers) to coordinate comprehensive care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency policy and state/federal regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety standards, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Serve as a professional representative of the agency, demonstrating compassion, respect, and cultural sensitivity.

 

 

Qualifications

 

 

  • Current RN license in the State of Maine (or applicable state of practice).
  • One year of clinical experience (home health or acute care preferred; pediatric and/or adult experience may be required depending on case).
  • CPR/BLS certification (required; ACLS or PALS may be preferred for certain cases).
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently in the patient’s home while maintaining accountability to the care team.
  • Excellent communication, teaching, and documentation skills.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
