Compensation: $46.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Hoboken Public School District is seeking experienced, appropriately certified educators to provide individualized home instruction to students who are temporarily unable to participate in their regular educational program or who otherwise qualify for home or out-of-school instruction.

Home Instruction Teachers provide individualized instruction aligned with the student's current educational program, grade-level standards, course requirements, and, when applicable, Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Section 504 Plan.

Assignments are made on an as-needed basis and may vary in duration, number of instructional hours, grade level, subject area, location, and student need.

Retired educators with valid New Jersey teaching certification are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid New Jersey teaching certificate appropriate to the grade level and/or subject area of the assignment.
  • Prior successful teaching experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum, instructional practices, and the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
  • Ability to provide individualized instruction and adapt instructional strategies based on student needs and progress.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a one-to-one instructional setting.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, counselors, case managers, administrators, families, and other appropriate District personnel.
  • Ability to maintain accurate instructional, attendance, and progress records and submit required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Successful completion of all required criminal history, employment, and District clearances.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized instruction to assigned students in accordance with the District-approved home instruction plan and applicable requirements.
  • Deliver instruction aligned with District curriculum, course requirements, New Jersey Student Learning Standards, and materials and assignments provided by the student's classroom or content-area teachers.
  • Coordinate with classroom teachers and appropriate District personnel to obtain assignments, instructional materials, assessments, and information regarding student progress.
  • Adapt instructional strategies and pacing to address the individual academic needs of the student while maintaining appropriate grade-level and course expectations.
  • Implement applicable provisions of the student's IEP, Section 504 Plan, or other District-approved educational plan, when required.
  • Monitor and document student participation, academic progress, assignments completed, and instructional content provided.
  • Maintain accurate records of instructional dates, times, hours, and services provided.
  • Submit instructional logs, attendance records, progress information, timesheets, and other required documentation within established District timelines.
  • Promptly communicate concerns regarding student attendance, participation, progress, instructional needs, or changes in circumstances to the designated District administrator.
  • Maintain student confidentiality, professional boundaries, and appropriate professional conduct at all times.
  • Perform other duties directly related to the home instruction assignment as required.

Assignment Process

Home instruction assignments are offered based on student and District needs and are not guaranteed.

To provide current Hoboken Board of Education teachers with an opportunity to express interest in available home instruction assignments, each new assignment will be made available to current District teaching staff for a 72-hour period before being offered to other qualified applicants in the Home Instruction Teacher pool.

Following the 72-hour period, assignments may be offered to qualified applicants based upon:

  • Appropriate New Jersey teaching certification and endorsements
  • Grade-level and/or subject-area teaching experience
  • Student instructional needs
  • Teacher availability
  • Location and scheduling requirements

The District reserves the right to make assignments based on the educational needs of the student and the operational needs of the District.

Acceptance of an assignment does not guarantee additional assignments or a minimum number of instructional hours.

Certification Areas Needed

Applications are encouraged from experienced educators across grade levels and content areas, including:

  • Elementary Education
  • English/Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • World Languages
  • Special Education/Teacher of Students with Disabilities
  • Other New Jersey instructional certification areas

Educators holding multiple certifications or endorsements are strongly encouraged to apply.

Compensation

$46.00 per hour

Compensation is based upon District-authorized instructional hours actually provided and the timely submission of all required documentation.
