Step into a hands-on production role where precision and pace go hand in hand. At ITW (Illinois Tool Works) in Newburyport, MA 01950, you’ll run web-fed embossing equipment that creates holographic finishes and slit rolls to exacting specifications. This is a direct-hire opportunity with a team that values safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

A day in the life

You arrive to review the production schedule, plan machine changeovers, and verify materials are staged. You align rollers and blades with hand tools, thread film through the line, and set temperature, speed, and flow. As the run starts, you watch the process closely—inspecting material for visual defects, making fine adjustments, and recording quantities per SOP and job order. Between runs, you clean the machine, adjust slit widths, and load/unload materials from unwind and rewind stations. You’ll also move product with a pallet jack or forklift, consult the Team Lead on questions, and support other operators as needed.

Shifts and pay

  • 1st Shift: Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM | $22–$24/hr
  • 2nd Shift: Monday–Friday | 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM | $22–$24/hr + $1.75/hr shift differential
  • 3rd Shift: Monday–Friday | 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM | $22–$24/hr + $2.75/hr shift differential

What you’ll do

  • Read schedules to plan machine changeovers and production runs
  • Confirm inventory availability for upcoming jobs
  • Start/stop equipment using the machine control panel
  • Align and fasten rollers/blades with hand tools
  • Thread/feed film; set and adjust temperature, speed, and flow
  • Observe process and product; correct deviations and defects
  • Perform quality checks and record run quantities per SOP and job orders
  • Consult Team Lead/technical staff on questionable findings
  • Execute changeovers, adjust slit width, and manage unwind/rewind
  • Clean machines and parts between runs
  • Handle materials with carts, pallet jacks, and forklifts
  • Operate and set up embossing/slitting equipment for holographic images
  • Use computers to print run sheets/labels and perform QA testing
  • Follow hazardous material procedures when working with solvents
  • Learn product codes, color numbering, and formulas
  • Cross-train across teams and assist fellow operators

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Manufacturing experience and/or mechanical aptitude preferred

Competencies

  • Clear verbal and written communication
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Willingness to learn and flexibility to support other departments within ITW ShineMark, NA
  • Familiarity with 5S is a plus
  • Adaptable to a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Willing to work overtime, including 1–2 weekends (Saturday and Sunday) per month

Physical and safety

  • Frequent standing/walking around machinery; visual inspections
  • Use of hands for fine manipulation; reaching with hands/arms
  • Ability to hear machinery, forklifts, and coworkers; communicate effectively
  • Respirator clearance exam; respirator use as needed for certain tasks
  • Lift/move up to 65 lbs as needed
