Description

Job Title: HIM Specialist I/ Medical Record Technician
Location: Saint Paul, MN 55101
Duration: 5+ Months of Contract Position with Extension
Schedule: Mon- Fri- 8:00am - 4:30pm (Open to potential adjustments)
Pay Rate: $22.00/ hr. to $26.80/ hr. on w2.
 
Job Description:
This position is responsible for all aspects of processing protected health information (PHI) in all formats. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Record maintenance.
  • Record storage and retrieval.
  • Scanning and indexing.
  • Record analysis.
  • Deficiency reporting.
  • Processing requests for records from both internal and external customers.
  • This position requires a professional attitude in the execution of all duties, along with knowledge of and conformance with federal, state and accrediting agency standards.

Level I
  • Communicates with all departments and staff in a professional manner.
  • Responds to customer requests promptly and appropriately.
  • Follows up when necessary to make sure customer needs are met.
  • Utilizes all available resources (technology/people) to optimize the patient’s experience.
  • Work is completed timely and meeting quality expectations.
  • Is a resource for care teams to resolve access to patient records concerns or needs.
  • Is knowledgeable about ROI, scanning, indexing, and deficiency management processes.
  • Is able to effectively prioritize work based on need and timing, including scanning of records related to upcoming appointments.
  • Consistently follows all current department and organizational guidelines and workflows, including:
  • Sorting
  • Scanning
  • Indexing
  • Release of Information (ROI)
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills to identify errors in patient medical records, identify any duplication and take corrective actions to avoid errors in the medical record.
  • Demonstrates high attention to detail and uses appropriate tools ensuring all patient information is accurate.
  • Demonstrates accuracy in sorting, scanning, indexing, and analysis.
Education & Experience:
Required
High School Diploma/GED
 
Preferred:
  • 1-year related experience
  • 1 - 3 years of progressive HIM experience
  • Student in an AHIMA accredited program
  • RHIT, RHIA, CCA or CCS certification
  • Advanced education (associate or bachelor’s degree)
