Duties
This position is responsible for all aspects of processing protected health information (PHI) in all formats. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Record maintenance, storage, and retrieval
- Scanning and indexing
- Record analysis and deficiency reporting
- Processing requests for records from both internal and external customers
The role requires a professional attitude and knowledge of federal, state, and accrediting agency standards. Duties may vary based on the work setting or patient population served. However, the position consistently involves serving patients with challenging and complex conditions, necessitating highly coordinated teamwork. Staff must communicate efficiently and effectively and adopt behaviors required for high-functioning integrated teams.

- Utilizes critical thinking skills to identify errors in patient medical records, detect duplication, and take corrective actions.
- Demonstrates high attention to detail and uses appropriate tools to ensure all patient information is accurate.
- Shows accuracy in sorting, scanning, indexing, and analysis.
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED.
- Preferred: 1-3 years of progressive HIM experience or enrollment in an AHIMA accredited program. Credentials such as RHIT, RHIA, CCA, or CCS are advantageous.
- Advanced education, such as an Associate or Bachelor's degree, is beneficial.
