Are you ready to take the next step in your highways career? Perhaps you're an experienced operative looking to move into supervision, or you already have experience leading teams and delivering projects in a highways, construction or maintenance environment.

At NY Highways, we're looking for a motivated and ambitious Trainee Supervisor to join our Highways Operations team. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your leadership skills, gain industry-recognised qualifications, and progress through our structured career grade pathway whilst helping to deliver essential highway services across North Yorkshire.

As a Trainee Supervisor, you'll support the delivery of operational activities across key service areas including:

  • Capital Schemes
  • General Maintenance
  • Winter & Surface Treatments
  • Cyclical & Drainage Operations

You'll work alongside experienced Supervisors and Senior Supervisors, gaining valuable hands-on experience and responsibility while developing the skills needed to progress within the role.

What you'll be doing

In this varied and rewarding role, you will:

  • Supervise day-to-day highway maintenance and improvement works.
  • Support the planning and programming of labour, plant, materials and resources.
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
  • Carry out site inspections, inductions, toolbox talks and safety checks.
  • Monitor progress of schemes and maintain accurate records and reporting.
  • Work closely with contractors, stakeholders and partner organisations.
  • Coach, mentor and motivate operational teams.
  • Assist in managing budgets, resources and work programmes.
  • Help deliver an excellent service to North Yorkshire's communities.

What we're looking for

We're interested in hearing from candidates who have:

  • Experience of delivering projects and/or supervising teams.  Ideally within Highways, Construction or related activities
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
  • Strong communication and A collaborative and positive approach to working
  • Good organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

Experience within highways, construction, civil engineering or a related industry would be beneficial, but we are also keen to hear from candidates with transferable supervisory experience who are looking for a new challenge.
