Highway Maintenance Technician - Austin Area

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician I is an entry-level position supporting highway and infrastructure maintenance activities. This is a hands-on role that involves outdoor work, operating tools and equipment, and working as part of a team. Previous maintenance experience is helpful but not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform general highway and infrastructure maintenance tasks - ie fixing potholes, picking up debris.
• Follow verbal and written instructions and established safety procedures.
• Safely operate and maintain hand and power tools, vehicles, and equipment.
• Work safely around mechanical equipment and active traffic areas.
• Maintain a clean, secure, and safe work site.
• Assist team members with maintenance activities as needed.
• Complete daily work logs and basic vehicle inspections.
• Participate in required safety meetings and training.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
• Demonstrate reliability, a strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED preferred, but not required.
• Previous maintenance, construction, or outdoor labor experience is a plus.
• Ability to perform basic math.
• Basic smartphone and mobile application skills.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record, as required.
• Ability to successfully complete required background and drug screening.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency/on-call assignments.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work for extended periods.
• Ability to work safely in active traffic areas.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
• Ability to wear required PPE at all times.
