Location: Grimes Maintenance Garage - Within five (5) months, employees are required to reside within 45 minutes driving time, during normal conditions, from the assigned road in your area of responsibility.
Shift Requirements: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday; hours may vary and on call 24 hours a day during emergency and/or weather conditions; occasional overnight travel
As the Highway Maintenance Supervisor (HMS), you will have the opportunity to plan and support maintenance activities of all primary roads assigned to the Grimes Garage. Some of your responsibilities will be supporting roadway maintenance crews on approximately 345 lane miles of primary highway, which includes Highways 141, 17, 6, 28, 44 across the assigned area and Interstates 80, 235, and 35.
You'll be joining a dedicated team focused on keeping Iowa's roads safe, efficient, and well-maintained. In this role, you'll:
While a CDL permit is required upon hire, you must have your Class A and endorsements / restrictions CDL within 5 months following your appointment. CDL Training for Iowa DOT employees is provided!! Entry Level Driver Training is available if you do not already possess a Class A endorsements / restrictions CDL for positions that require it. Those eligible will receive both hands-on Behind-the-Wheel Range and Road training, with web-based Theory training, to fulfill required state and federal regulations.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
Eight years of full-time work experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, highway materials inspection, or as an automotive/heavy equipment/diesel mechanic.
All of the following (a and b):
Four years of full-time work experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, highway materials inspection, or as an automotive/heavy equipment/diesel mechanic; and
A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in business administration, construction technology/management, or engineering equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.
Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Construction Technician Supervisor.
Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes three years of full-time work as a Garage Operations Assistant or Highway Technician Senior.
