    Job Title: Highway Maintenance LaborerĀ / Transportation Operator

    Location: Seaford, VA

    Employment Type: Full-Time (W2)

    GovFirst is seeking dependable and safety-conscious Highway Maintenance Laborers / Transportation Operators to support roadway maintenance operations in Seaford, VA. This position is responsible for assisting with roadway repairs, right-of-way maintenance, equipment operation, preventive maintenance, emergency response operations, and general highway maintenance activities while maintaining compliance with VDOT and OSHA safety standards.

    Responsibilities:
    • Assist with repairs and maintenance of state roadways and surrounding rights-of-way.
    • Operate hand tools, power tools, and highway maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
    • Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools.
    • Follow all applicable VDOT, OSHA, VOSHA, company, and industry safety standards and procedures.
    • Wear and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
    • Support roadway maintenance and construction activities as assigned.
    • Perform heavy manual labor, including lifting, carrying, loading, and unloading materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Assist with emergency response operations, including snow removal, storm response, accident cleanup, and other disaster-related activities.
    • Participate as an active member of the maintenance crew to complete assigned projects and operational objectives.
    • Respond to emergency call-outs, including nights, weekends, holidays, and adverse weather when required.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors, project management, and team members regarding work assignments and project progress.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff or project management.

    Requirements

    Required Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated knowledge of roadway maintenance and construction activities.
    • Experience operating highway maintenance equipment and performing preventive maintenance.
    • Proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
    • Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments and adverse weather conditions.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a maintenance crew.
    • Strong commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
    • Ability to respond to emergency situations outside normal working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
    Required Education & Credentials:
    • High School Diploma or GED required.
    • Equivalent experience or training may be considered.
    Required Work Authorization:
    • U.S. Citizenship.
    Required Licenses, Certifications & Screening:
    • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred but not required.
    • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening.
    • Ability to successfully pass a background check.
    • Completion of all required VDOT and industry training.
    • Successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.
