The Science Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering effective classroom instruction, assessing student progress, maintaining a safe and organized learning environment, and collaborating with fellow educators and school leadership to support student achievement.
Candidates may have certification in specific science disciplines such as Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or other approved secondary science content areas. A Texas composite Science certification is highly preferred because it provides greater flexibility to teach across multiple high school science subjects.
The ideal candidate is a certified Texas educator who can make complex scientific concepts understandable, encourage curiosity and critical thinking, and create a classroom environment where students can successfully engage with both theoretical and hands-on science instruction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and deliver science instruction aligned with applicable Texas curriculum standards and district expectations.
Teach high school science courses based on certification, academic background, student needs, and campus assignments.
Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, laboratory activities, assignments, projects, and assessments.
Explain scientific concepts clearly and use multiple instructional approaches to support different learning styles and levels of understanding.
Incorporate hands-on experiments, demonstrations, laboratory activities, and real-world applications where appropriate.
Establish and maintain safe classroom and laboratory procedures.
Ensure students follow appropriate safety practices when using laboratory equipment, materials, and chemicals.
Evaluate student performance through assignments, examinations, laboratory work, projects, and other assessment methods.
Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on assessment results and individual learning needs.
Provide intervention, tutoring, or additional academic support to students who need assistance mastering course content.
Maintain accurate grades, attendance records, progress documentation, and other required student records.
Create a classroom environment that promotes participation, curiosity, accountability, collaboration, and respectful behavior.
Communicate with students, parents or guardians, counselors, administrators, and other educators regarding academic progress when appropriate.
Collaborate with science department colleagues on curriculum planning, laboratory activities, instructional strategies, assessments, and student-support initiatives.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, training, and other campus or district activities.
Follow applicable district policies, instructional procedures, student-safety requirements, and laboratory protocols.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Texas composite Science certification strongly preferred.
Previous experience teaching science at the high school level.
Experience teaching multiple science content areas.
Background teaching Biology, Life Science, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or other secondary science courses.
Experience conducting and supervising classroom laboratory activities.
Experience working with students representing a range of academic abilities and learning needs.
Familiarity with Texas curriculum standards and secondary science instructional requirements.
Experience using educational technology, digital learning platforms, laboratory equipment, and student information systems.
WHAT WILL MAKE SOMEONE SUCCESSFUL
The strongest candidate will be an educator who can make scientific concepts engaging, relevant, and understandable to high school students.
This person should be comfortable combining classroom instruction with hands-on learning and adapting lessons for students with different academic needs.
Success in this role will require strong classroom leadership, attention to laboratory safety, effective communication, and a commitment to helping students strengthen their scientific knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and critical-thinking skills.
Candidates with a composite Science certification will be especially valuable because of their ability to support instruction across multiple high school science disciplines.
