POSITION: 1.0 High School Reading Interventionist REPORTS TO: ELA Curriculum Supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Certificate Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
2) Endorsement(s) BR, BT or BX (required, BR strongly preferred) Grade Level 9-12
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience (required)
- Documented evidence/data demonstrating measurable improvement in student reading achievement
resulting from the candidate's prior instruction (required)
- Prior experience delivering Read 180 or a comparable blended-learning reading intervention program
(required)
- Working knowledge of the Science of Reading and familiarity with a Structured Literacy framework
(highly preferred)
- Strong knowledge of data-based decision-making practices (highly preferred)
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The High School Reading Interventionist provides direct, small-group reading intervention to students in
grades 9-12 who are reading below grade level. Using the Read 180 program, the Interventionist delivers a
blended-learning model of whole-group instruction, small-group differentiated instruction, and
independent/adaptive software practice designed to accelerate reading growth for striving readers. This
position operates within the District's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) framework, providing Tier 2 and Tier
3 reading intervention as identified through universal screening and progress -monitoring data. The
Interventionist works in close partnership with building administrators, content-area teachers, and the ELA
Curriculum Supervisor to ensure interventions are implemented with fidelity and that student growth data
directly informs instructional decision-making.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver daily Read 180 instruction using the whole-group, small-group, and independent/adaptive software
- rotation model to identified students reading below grade level
- Administer Read 180 diagnostic assessments (e.g., Scholastic Reading Inventory) to place students into
- appropriate instructional levels and monitor growth throughout the year
- Collect, analyze, and present student achievement and growth data to building and district leadership to
inform intervention placement, grouping, and instructional decisions
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of student attendance, software usage, and progress-monitoring
data to support
- MTSS documentation and state reporting requirements, including PA 306
- (Michigan's Literacy Essentials legislation)
- Collaborate with content-area teachers, counselors, and building administrators to align intervention
support with students' core coursework and overall academic progress
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, growth data, and strategies to support
reading development at home
- Apply working knowledge of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy framework to guide
intervention instruction and small-group instructional decisions
- Participate in regularly scheduled data conversations, professional learning communities, and progress -
monitoring meetings

Science of Reading at the building, district, or state level
- Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in
meaningful learning experiences.
- Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying
backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
- Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
- Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
- Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning
process.
- Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a
regular basis.
- Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
- Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
- Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area,
and/or program classification.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools.
- Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals.
- Demonstrates gains in student performance.
- Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring
schedules, coordinating.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
