POSITION OPEN: High School Varsity Wrestling Associate Head Coach

START DATE - 2026-27 Winter Season

LOCATION - Berkley High School

COMPENSATION: Category IV Starting $3,256+ commensurate with experience

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated coaching, instructional, or competitive wrestling experience.
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
  • Completion of MHSAA Coaches Advancement Program (CAP) Level 1, or willingness to complete within 60 days of hire.
  • MHSAA Weight Management Program / Optimal Performance Calculator (OPC) certification, or willingness to complete prior to first weigh-in.
  • Current concussion awareness training in compliance with Michigan Public Act 342.
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint-based criminal history background check (at applicant expense).
  • Availability for the full season including preseason, daily practices, weekend tournaments, and MHSAA team and individual postseason.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct all aspects of the girls' wrestling program, including roster development, practice planning, lineup decisions, equipment, and supervision of athletes during practices, matches, tournaments, travel, and team functions.

  • Plan and lead daily practices that develop technique, conditioning, mental performance, and team cohesion.
  • Manage MHSAA weight certification and weekly weigh-ins for all girls wrestlers, in compliance with the Weight Management Program / OPC.
  • Conduct regular skin checks and enforce skin infection protocols (ringworm, impetigo, herpes gladiatorum, etc.).
  • Recruit and retain female athletes within the building and feeder programs to grow a sustainable roster.
  • Schedule duals, tournaments, and team events in coordination with the Athletic Director and the boys' head coach.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with athletes, parents, officials, fellow coaches, administrators, and community members.
  • Manage the girls' program budget; assist with fundraising and team apparel decisions as needed.
  • Support athletes pursuing college recruitment, including communication with college coaches.
  • Plan and host an end-of-season awards banquet and complete season evaluations.
