The primary role of the Academic Counselor is to guide students toward successful completion of High School while preparing them for appropriate postsecondary education, training, and career pathways. Responsibilities include supporting students in meeting high school graduation requirements, developing and reviewing academic plans, monitoring credits, assisting with course selection, and creating the schools master schedule. Additionally, the counselor helps students navigate Financial Aid forms, scholarship and college applications, organizes college and career fairs, and interprets transcripts.
This is a specially funded position with a projected end date of 06-30-2027 with renewal contingent on funding source.
Essential Functions
55% - Planning & Support - Creation of Master schedule and selecting and enrolling students in High School courses. Monitor student grades, credits and graduation requirements, guides course selection and academic planning. Process transcripts, address enrollment changes and course adjustments, ensure accuracy with high school and graduation requirements; Researches program opportunities, industry standards, trends, best practices and emerging technologies and makes recommendations for implementation. Coordinates and evaluates processes and procedures; implements program outreach and/or recruitment and retention activities. Designs, develops, maintains and delivers program resource information, presentations, reports, correspondence, and promotional material to include facilitating conferences, workshops and in-service programs
35% - Compliance & Academic Counseling - Meeting and engaging with students in conversations to determine the preferred pathway to obtain their Associates degree, and guiding them ensuring correct coursework alignment, including college course selection. Maintain accurate student records, transcripts and reports, communicate with parents, administrators and participate in IEP, 504, and student study teams. Complete state mandated reports such as CCRI and ECAP. Conduct graduation audits for seniors, monitor course failures and suggest credit recovery options, monitor the schools College and Career Readiness Index and report findings to the state; develop individualized high school/college course plans for students pursuing an Associate's degree; inform students and families about consequences of withdrawing from or failing a college course.
10% - Other duties as assigned - Which include but are not limited to planning graduation, college tours, career fairs, and assisting with scholarship and FAFSA applications.
