Position Details
Job Title: HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND TEACHER 0.1-0.2 FTE
The high school concert band teacher provides music instruction at a high school level to students in the band program. This role includes preparing students for performances, supporting varied learning needs, fostering musical growth, and student engagement. The teacher collaborates with staff, families, and music boosters, and upholds a tradition of excellence in music education and performance.
Qualifications:
- State of Michigan Teaching Certificate (required), JX or JQ endorsement (preferred)
- Experience teaching music at the middle school and/or high school level (preferred)

- Ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
- Ability to motivate and inspire students
- Ability to transform instruction through the creative use of technology
- Knowledge of instructional practices for varied learning styles and individual student needs
- Ability to understand, value, and positively respond to the unique developmental traits of students
- Excellent organizational and communication skills (written, verbal, and listening skills)
- Ability to promote recruitment and retention of students in the instrumental music program
- Ability to continue to develop a tradition of excellence in the high school band program
- Willingness to organize, direct, and supervise high school band concerts and/or marching band
- Willingness to maintain an active role in all local, district, regional, and state activities related to the instrumental music program
- Willingness to work within a fine arts department that includes choral and theatrical productions
- Willingness to collaborate and communicate with an active parent music boosters organization
- Ability to manage a budget for the instrumental music program
- Willingness and ability to maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
- Ability to complete other duties as assigned
Location: East Grand Rapids High School
Rate: Per Contract Salary Schedule
