High School Basketball Coach


School: Daystar Academy
Reports To: Director of Student Life and Athletics
Status: Part-Time 

Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Mentoring
  • Design and implement competitive, high-level training sessions focusing on skill refinement, tactical understanding, game preparation, and physical conditioning appropriate for high school competition.
  • Serve as a role model in character, sportsmanship, and faith-based values, inspiring student-athletes to excel in athletics, academics, and personal growth.
  • Provide individualized feedback and clear development plans to student-athletes, challenging them to improve performance while maintaining a healthy team dynamic.
Program Leadership & Management
  • Lead the High School Basketball Program, setting clear goals for team performance, conduct, and development.
  • Build and maintain a positive, disciplined, and competitive team culture.
  • Oversee assistant coaches and coordinate with lower-level coaches to create alignment and player development pathways from Middle School through High School.
Compliance & IHSA Standards
  • Remain fully informed and compliant with all IHSA rules, guidelines, deadlines, and eligibility requirements.
  • Attend IHSA rules meetings and professional development sessions relevant to high school soccer.
Administrative Duties
  • Maintain ongoing communication with players, parents, and school administration.
  • Ensure compliance with Daystar Academy athletic policies, academic eligibility requirements, and student-athlete code of conduct.
Game Day Responsibilities
  • Prepare the team for all competitions through scouting, strategy development, and game-day readiness.
  • Lead the team during matches, making strategic adjustments and managing player rotations.
  • Promote sportsmanship, respect for officials, and respect for opponents in all competitive settings.
Player Development
  • Foster an environment where student-athletes can grow as leaders, teammates, and individuals.
  • Provide guidance on nutrition, recovery, and balancing academic and athletic responsibilities.
  • Encourage and cultivate off-season training, strength and conditioning, and participation in summer camps or club programs.
Professional Development
  • Stay current with best practices in high school coaching, sports science, and player development.
  • Participate in coaching workshops, clinics, and conferences as directed by the Athletic Director.
  • Engage in self-reflection and seek feedback to improve program quality and personal coaching effectiveness.
