Position Responsibilities
- Identify and safely use tools and equipment required for assigned tasks.
- Recognize workplace hazards and follow established safety procedures to eliminate risks.
- Assist in measuring, marking, and cutting wood, metal, and other construction materials to specifications.
- Assist in the construction, reinforcement, installation, and dismantling of concrete forms.
- Assist with building temporary and permanent wooden structures and formwork.
- Handle, organize, and stage materials and tools for construction activities.
- Assist carpenters with general construction, maintenance, and repair tasks.
- Perform housekeeping duties and maintain clean, organized work areas.
- Follow all company, client, and site-specific policies and procedures.
- Work safely around equipment, tools, and other crafts in an industrial environment.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a current TWIC card.
- Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the position.
- Must be willing and able to follow all safety rules and regulations.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Knowledge of construction materials, tools, and processes associated with basic carpentry and formwork construction.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must be able to work a full schedule and any required overtime with little to no advance notice.
- Must comply with all company and site policies and procedures.
- Must possess the required tools for the position.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn and support the carpentry craft.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Zachry employee or employee with recall rights (ROF).
- Previous experience working with carpentry, concrete, and rebar.
- Previous industrial construction or maintenance experience.
- Experience working in refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and work in various positions throughout the workday.
- Frequent use of hands, arms, and fingers for handling tools, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work from elevated surfaces, ladders, scaffolds, and uneven terrain.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions involving lifting, reaching, gripping, and carrying materials.
- Must have sufficient vision, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination to safely perform assigned duties.
- Ability to communicate effectively through speaking, hearing, and hand signals.
- Must be capable of wearing all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, respirators when required, reflective vest, and steel-toed work boots.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and access various work areas as required by the job.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in an active industrial refinery and maintenance environment.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, wind, rain, and direct sunlight.
- Exposure to dirt, dust, noise, vibration, and other construction-related hazards.
- Work may be performed around operating equipment, moving vehicles, heavy machinery, and elevated work areas.
- May be required to work indoors and outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and alternate shifts as business needs require.
- Must comply with all refinery, client, and Zachry safety requirements and procedures.

Carpenter Helpers will possess a general knowledge of carpentry, construction materials, and power tools. This position assists in the construction, erection, dismantling, and repair of wooden and metal structures, concrete forms, and related materials. The Carpenter Helper will work under the direction of skilled craftsmen while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
