Essential Functions/ Job Competencies/ Physical Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Drives heavy trucks including dump trucks, street maintenance vehicles, tractors, and lowboy trailers.
- Performs maintenance work on City streets including working with asphalt and patching potholes.
- Utilizes a variety of heavy equipment, machinery, and tools.
- Maintains proper working order of vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
- Cleans streets with a street sweeper; operates a truck loader, ditches material, and performs dump truck maintenance duties.
- Checks drains and ditches for any blockage; removes obstructions with a chain saw or hand saw; cleans ditches periodically and after heavy rains.
- Repairs and replaces damaged street signs; builds forms, fences, and barricades for use by the street department.
- May assist in performing unskilled or semi-skilled labor such as digging ditches, covering ditches, pouring concrete, mowing, trimming trees, shrubs, and all other duties as needed to perform paving projects.
- Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Effort Requirements
Position will have the following exposures:
- Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards
- Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body

Minimum Qualifications Required
Education and Experience
At least one (1) year of truck driving experience. Valid Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Licenses or Certifications:
- A valid Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL) class A or B and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record
- Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment
