Heavy Equipment & Diesel Technician

Position Summary
We are seeking a Heavy Equipment & Diesel Technician to support the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of a fleet of heavy equipment, diesel-powered machinery, trucks, and jobsite support equipment.
This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced diesel/heavy equipment mechanics and junior technicians who are looking to develop their skills in a hands-on industrial construction environment.
The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, dependable, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a field operations team.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain diesel-powered heavy equipment, trucks, and construction machinery.
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections to minimize equipment downtime.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Perform repairs to engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, undercarriages, and other major components.
- Maintain and repair compressors, generators, pumps, air systems, and other equipment used in industrial construction operations.
- Inspect equipment before and after use and identify potential safety or maintenance issues.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns at jobsites and perform field repairs when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts, and preventative maintenance.
- Assist with equipment mobilization, demobilization, and preparation for projects.
- Work closely with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field crews to keep equipment operational.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and work environment.
- Follow OSHA requirements, safety policies, and manufacturer specifications.
- Assist with other mechanical and equipment-related tasks as needed.

- Excavators and loaders
- Skid steers
- Boom lifts and aerial equipment
- Cranes and material-handling equipment
- Compressors and blasting equipment
- Generators and pumps
- Diesel trucks and trailers
- Hydraulic equipment
- Industrial coating and surface-preparation equipment
- Welding and fabrication equipment
- Other construction and support equipment
Qualifications
Senior-Level Candidates
- 5+ years of experience repairing and maintaining diesel-powered heavy equipment or construction equipment preferred.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
- Experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to perform field repairs and work independently.
- Experience working on construction, industrial, or heavy infrastructure equipment is highly desirable.
Junior-Level Candidates
- 1+ years of mechanical, diesel, automotive, agricultural, or heavy equipment experience preferred.
- Trade school or technical training is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to use basic hand and diagnostic tools.
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and willing to work in a hands-on environment.
- Willingness to train and develop within a heavy equipment maintenance career.
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver's license required.
- CDL is a plus but not required.
- Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work around construction equipment, industrial coatings, abrasive blasting operations, and active jobsites.
- Ability to lift, carry, bend, climb, and perform physical mechanical work.
- Willingness to travel to regional jobsites throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and surrounding areas as needed.
