EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or Equivalent; or one month related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY:
Operate construction and special purpose equipment and associated attachments/tools for demolition, leveling, grading, filling surfaces and land fill refuse disposal, lifting, moving, loading and unloading heavy objects and materials, transportation, excavating, ditching and moving earth, stabilizing, soil, compacting surfaces and weather and asphalt distribution.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates such heavy engineering equipment as a full track type loader, pay loaders, a tractor mounted operated backhoe, a diesel powered grader and a pneumatic roller on a variety of assignments.
Excavates, back fills, grades and levels earth to rough specifications in breaking new ground for construction sites.
Moves earth to graded curves, road shoulders and soft ground.
Works to fine grades (from subbase, gravel through blue top) on construction, replacement and repair projects for parking areas, roads, streets, playgrounds, sports fields and sidewalks.
Works to both rough and precise specifications in excavations for electrical communications, water, sewer, gal and oil line installations and repair projects.
Operates equipment on flat and rolling terrain, come rocky portions of the installation and close to buildings, trees, sharp drop offs where excavations are made, manholes, buried utility lines and similar obstructions.
Adjusts scarifiers, blades, carry all, or power unit, usually without stopping equipment.
Uses clutches, levers, brakes and valves according to slope or tilt.
Operates road maintainer (motor driven twelve foot blade) in clearing ditches, regrading gravel roads, grading dirt roads, re shouldering paved roads, grading for purpose of leveling large areas such as leveling dirt and gravel on large parking lots.
Performs any other operations requiring the use of a road maintainer.
Performs operator maintenance (e.g., makes minor repairs and adjustments to engineering equipment such as adjusting clutches, p.c. units, replacing grader blades, lubricating bearings that require daily greasing, etc.).
Assists all other trades in the District to complete jobs related to heavy equipment.
Maintains confidentiality of information.
Reports to work on time every day.
Follows District safety guidelines.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of radiation. The noise level is usually very loud.
