The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Heavy Equipment and Vehicle Technician in Wolf Point! This position assists with the maintenance and repair of machinery and mechanical equipment, such as automobiles, light and heavy duty trucks, as well as construction equipment (diesel, gasoline, hybrid, or propane), adjusts, diagnoses, and replaces nonfunctional parts of devices and control instruments, replaces worn or defective parts, repairs and replaces tires on vehicles and equipment, lubricates and cleans parts, performs some minor repairs without supervision.

Required Education and Experience:

• One (1) years' experience as: a lubrication technician, light duty tire technician, or mechanic's assistant.

• Formal light or heavy-duty technical training and/or certification(s) will also be considered. Basic computer knowledge and function. Requires working knowledge of basic record keeping.

• AND a valid Montana Commercial Operators License (Class A, Type II) with no restrictions and a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC) is required. Forklift certification must be obtained within 3 months after hire.

• Applicants with a learner's permit have 30 days to obtain the necessary Montana Commercial Operators License.

This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.

Top candidates will be invited to participate in a written, practical test, and behavioral-based interview prior to final selection.

Driver's record will be verified. Successful applicants will be required to sign a release form which authorizes the Department to obtain the applicant's permanent driving records. Compliance with Mont. Admin. R. 2.6.201, "State Vehicle Use," and MDT Policy #6.03.001, "State Vehicle Use Policy" are conditions of employment.
