Description

Healthcare Interoperability & Clinical Data Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Interoperability & Clinical Data Specialist with strong hands-on development experience in CCD/C-CDA, HL7, FHIR, and clinical data integration. This role focuses on developing and supporting scalable solutions for parsing, transforming, validating, and integrating clinical data from EHRs, health information exchanges, and other healthcare sources.

The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of CCD/C-CDA document structures and clinical terminology standards, combined with strong Python and SQL development skills. This is a hands-on technical position requiring direct experience developing clinical data parsing and transformation solutions, rather than primarily managing vendor tools or integration activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain clinical data ingestion, parsing, transformation, and validation solutions using Python and SQL.

  • Analyze CCD/C-CDA documents, including clinical sections, templates, entries, identifiers, and coded observations, particularly Laboratory Results, Vital Signs, Problems, Medications, and Procedures.

  • Develop custom Python-based parsers and utilities to extract, normalize, and validate clinical data from XML, JSON, HL7, FHIR, and other healthcare formats.

  • Work with FHIR resources, Bundles, profiles, and REST APIs to support clinical data exchange and integration.

  • Perform data profiling, mapping, reconciliation, and quality assessments across multiple clinical data sources.

  • Troubleshoot complex interoperability and data integration issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement technical solutions.

  • Collaborate with EHR vendors, health information exchanges, data aggregators, and internal technology teams to onboard new clinical data sources.

  • Support clinical data consumption for healthcare quality measurement, HEDIS reporting, care gap identification, and clinical analytics.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, data mappings, validation rules, and integration specifications.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare data integration, clinical interoperability, healthcare data engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • Advanced hands-on experience with CCD/C-CDA documents, including clinical sections, templates, entries, and associated terminology codes.

  • Demonstrated experience personally developing and troubleshooting CCD/C-CDA parsing or clinical data extraction solutions.

  • Strong Python development skills, including XML/JSON parsing, data transformation, automation, and validation.

  • Advanced SQL skills for analyzing, reconciling, and troubleshooting healthcare datasets.

  • Working knowledge of HL7 FHIR, including clinical resources, Bundles, profiles, and REST APIs.

  • Strong understanding of clinical terminology standards, particularly LOINC and SNOMED CT.

  • Experience mapping and normalizing clinical data from multiple healthcare sources.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and technical documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PySpark, Apache Spark, or similar technologies for large-scale clinical data processing.

  • Healthcare payer experience, particularly involving clinical data integration or payer-provider interoperability.

  • Knowledge of HEDIS, NCQA quality reporting, supplemental clinical data, and care gap identification.

  • Experience with AWS or other cloud-based data processing environments.

  • Experience integrating clinical data from EHRs, health information exchanges, and clinical data aggregators.
