Description

Mirth Connect and Healthcare Interoperability

The Role

Cyberlocke is seeking a hands-on Healthcare Integration Specialist to support a healthcare client's clinical and business application interfaces. This is a delivery-focused role for someone who can build, monitor, troubleshoot, and document Mirth Connect integrations in production.

We are looking for a practical integration engineer, not a director, product manager, or enterprise architect. The strongest candidate will have solid Mirth Connect and HL7 experience and know how to work through interface failures at the message level.

What You Will Support

  • Healthcare EHR and clinical applications, including Athena, Apollo, and future Epic-related readiness work.
  • HL7 v2 interfaces, FHIR and REST APIs, SFTP and file-based exchanges, and secure transport using MLLP over TCP/IP, VPN, and SFTP.
  • Mirth Connect environments, including channel development, connectors, transformations, routing, queue monitoring, logging, and controlled deployments.
  • Clinical, operational, revenue-cycle, and business applications that depend on reliable interface processing and clear issue ownership.

What You Will Do

  • Support Mirth Connect in production, including monitoring channels, queues, alerts, logs, and message reprocessing.
  • Build and maintain HL7 v2, API, FHIR, SFTP, and file-based integrations using approved patterns and interface specifications.
  • Investigate failed, delayed, or malformed messages. Perform message-level troubleshooting, transformations, mappings, retry logic, and error-handling improvements.
  • Coordinate testing and production changes with EHR and application teams, infrastructure, security, vendors, and clinical stakeholders.
  • Document interface inventories, endpoint details, data mappings, support procedures, test evidence, known issues, and change history.
  • Support interface testing tied to application upgrades, infrastructure work, and EHR-readiness initiatives.
  • Escalate architecture decisions, material data-quality concerns, security issues, and high-impact production incidents to senior technical leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Three to five years of hands-on healthcare integration, interface-engine, or healthcare application support experience in a hospital, health system, HIE, or healthcare technology environment.
  • Hands-on Mirth Connect experience, including building or supporting channels, connectors, transformations, routing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and production deployments.
  • Strong working knowledge of HL7 v2, especially ADT, ORM, and ORU messages. Ability to read messages, identify data or routing issues, and work from interface specifications.
  • Working knowledge of FHIR, REST APIs, JSON, XML, SQL, SFTP, and secure data exchange. Experience with MLLP is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting interfaces with one or more major EHR platforms, such as Epic, Cerner, MEDITECH, Athena, eClinicalWorks, or similar systems.
  • Ability to manage tickets, support test plans, validate results, maintain clear documentation, and explain technical issues to nontechnical healthcare stakeholders.
  • Understanding of HIPAA, patient-data sensitivity, change control, and the operational impact of clinical-system outages.
  • Candidates based in or near Mckinney, Texas are strongly preferred. Remote or hybrid candidates must be able to travel to Abilene at least monthly.
  • You will be required to come to our office daily for the first 90 days and then hybrid after that.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mirth Connect certification or equivalent production support experience.
  • Experience with Mirth Connect upgrades, database cleanup, logging, retention, or performance tuning.
  • Experience with X12 or EDI transactions, C-CDA, clinical terminologies, or data normalization.
  • Experience with Active Directory, Citrix or VDI, Imprivata, or healthcare authentication.
  • Experience working in Azure or AWS healthcare environments.

What This Role Is Not

This is not a chief architect, enterprise integration-platform owner, product manager, or broad infrastructure project-manager role. The specialist will do hands-on delivery and production support. Complex enterprise architecture, platform ownership, major standards, and cross-platform solution design remain with senior technical leadership.
