    Bring your organization, communication, and customer-service skills to a fast-paced surgical environment where every detail matters. As a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC, you'll play a vital role in keeping operations running smoothly while supporting patients, families, and clinical teams.

    Schedule

    • Monday - Friday with rotating Saturdays
    • Variable rotating shifts:
    • 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
    • 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM
    • 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
    • 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM

    About the Role

    The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC plays a key role in ensuring seamless daily operations at the OR front desk. In this highly visible position, you'll serve as the communication hub-managing incoming calls, coordinating patient flow, updating surgical schedules, and facilitating real-time communication between clinical staff, surgeons, and ancillary departments to keep everything running efficiently.

    What You'll Do

    Create a Welcoming Experience

    • Greet patients, families, visitors, and staff with professionalism and compassion
    • Help maintain a calm, organized, and patient-centered environment

    Coordinate & Communicate

    • Manage incoming calls, paging, mail, and unit communication
    • Coordinate patient flow, procedures, and transportation
    • Update surgical schedules and tracking systems (Bedboard/Teletracking
    • Communicate updates clearly with nurses, physicians, and leadership

    Support Clinical Operations

    • Enter and relay physician orders accurately and timely
    • Maintain patient charts and medical records per policy
    • Ensure patient identification and documentation accuracy

    Keep the Unit Running Smoothly

    • Monitor and restock supplies and family lounge areas
    • Perform audits, maintain logs, and reconcile charges
    • Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs for office equipment

    Be a Team Player

    • Build strong, professional relationships across disciplines
    • Support process improvements and department initiatives
    • Assist with onboarding and serve as a resource for new staff

    What We're Looking For

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
    • Computer proficiency required; healthcare systems experience preferred
    • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
    • Certified Health Unit Secretary course (preferred, not required

    Additional Details

    • May assist with distribution of medications to nursing staff (no administration
    • Must adhere to HIPAA, safety, and hospital policies
    • Act 34 Clearance required
