Position Summary
The Health Inspector is responsible for performing entry-level environmental inspections of public and private property to enforce public laws codes ordinances and regulations related to environmental health safety and sanitary control. This position is tasked with investigating foodborne illnesses and complaints related to food establishments and providing dispositions based on your investigations. Additionally this role involves conducting inspections of foster homes and implementing mosquito and vector control measures investigating swimming pool complaints and conducting inspections of temporary food setups on weekends. Work is performed in accordance with municipal and state laws governing health control and requires some independent judgment and initiative in the application of laws. Difficult problems however are referred to a supervisor. Courtesy tact and firmness are required in dealing with the general public in a variety of situations some of which may be stressful. General supervision is received from a Senior Health Inspector who evaluates performance based upon observation and discussions concerning the effectiveness of carrying out instructions.
