    HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNICIAN

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Manages incoming digital faxes, including requests for medication refills, discharge summaries (hospitals, emergency department visits, and inpatient stays) and requests from durable medical equipment companies. Reviews faxes and assigns them to applicable patient record by category of information. Forwards faxes to nursing or appropriate provider. Performs referral tracking functions, which include making appointments, sending requests for records, sending follow-up letters and changing the status of the referral. Other duties and responsibilities as directed or assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    At least three (3) years of health information experience, or an associate's degree and two (2) years of health information experience. Health care experience may include medical records, clinical care, or information technology. A certification or associate's degree in a health care field is desirable. Specialized training in the acquisition, transmission, storage, and retrieval of health care information is required.
