    Description

    The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico''s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

    The Autism Programs at the CDD has long supported families to respond to the needs of other family members based upon their lived experiences with a child with ASD.We have now begun to work to meet the needs of families experiencing other behavioral health challenges. As part of a University Center of Excellence, we subscribe to an individual and family-centered approach in all our work.

    This position, with preference for a family member of an individual with ASD, will continue to support the dissemination of specialized information and resources as well as advocacy that is driven by the needs of individuals with ASD and other mental health diagnoses in NM. In addition, the successful candidate will have a unique role in the implementation of training and supportfor certified family peer support workers across the state in order to ensure that community-based advocacy and supports are available in New Mexico. Occasional travel is required.
